Our Philanthropy

"To welcome the opportunity, of contributing to the world's work in the community where I am placed, because of the joy thereby bestowed, and the talent of leadership multiplied."

As members of Alpha Gamma Delta, our philanthropy is one of the most important things to us. We take it very seriously and dedicate a lot of our time to it. We have our very own philanthropy that we are able to contribute which is the Alpha Gamma Delta foundation. Here's what it goes to and how we support it:

What does the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation go to?

- Diabetes research

- Scholarships (for our sisters, and those who need it)

- AGD Diabetes summer camp

- Juvenile Diabetes

-SIS grants

Our Philanthropic events are as follows:

Taco Dinners (one each semester). This is what we're known for on campus! We hold it at 607 South Main street at our second house. Tickets run approx. $4 from an Alpha Gam and $5 at the door. We have a buffet with things like: soft/hard shelled tacos, nachos, deserts, and punch. We'd love it for you to join us next semester!
Soup Kitchen (once a semester). This is where a few girls sign up for different blocks of time to spend a few hours at the local Isabella County Soup Kitchen to prepare, serve, and clean up meals for the local underprivileged.

Trick-or-Treating for JDF. Each Halloween season, we get together as a group and get into our sorority letters, and go trick-or-treating around the local areas of Mt. Pleasant for donations for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Since we do this annually, many people recognize, and know of us, and many are very generous and willing to help us out.

Annual Cedar Point Trip This is many girls' favorite event. We usually go to Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH around Halloween and work there to raise money. In the past we've done "Ride Pride" which is operating or helping with the major rides around the park, and "Scream Team," which is working in the haunted houses. It's a lot of fun because we enjoy the best of both worlds - helping our foundation and a free pass to the park on our breaks! Our last cedar point trip earned us over $4,000 for our foundation.

Recruitment Activities. At the annual formal recruitment, one of the days is a Philanthropy day where potential girls can come visit our house, and participate in some kind of art and craft that we have to send to a local or international charity. This year, we put together non perishable items in bags and sent them to the Hurricane Katrina Relief fund, and we put together bags of goodies for the kids at the Alpha Gamma Delta Diabetes camps.

Supporting our other Greek Philanthropies on campus! We also try to form groups of girls to go and support the other fraternities and sororities on campus that are holding their philanthropic events. These range from spaghetti dinners to date auctions. It's a great way to meet other Greeks and support one another

Top Honors:

Each year, a few select chapters (5% to be exact) are awarded "Jewel Chapter Status" which goes to any chapter raising $2,000 or more for the foundation. This is our third consecutive year in a row obtaining this status. This year we achieved well over $2,000 and was a finalist for the biennium award, which is given to the chapter who has give the highest amount to the foundation in the entire nation! Congrats girls!
