The Kappa Kappa Psi interest group at Central Michigan University came into existence in spring of 2005. Dr. James Batcheller, the colony advisor, had been in contact with Rod Chesnutt since 2000 regarding starting a colony. It wasn't until Amanda Getzmeyer transferred to Central Michigan University from Purdue's Gamma Pi chapter, that Dr. Batcheller approached her and and several other key members of the band program about starting a Kappa Kappa Psi interest group.
Soon the interest group grew to 25 members and the group began to hold regular meetings in March of 2005. By April, the group has elected an e-board to serve for the remainder of the colonization process. Soon the colony began hosting fundraisers and service projects went into place. The colony began distributing their signature water coolers and apples for the marching band at the home football games. On November 12, 2005, the interest group attended 1st degree with Albion College of Michigan as the Advising Chapter.
After 1st degree, the colony continued their efforts to become a chapter by forming a constitution, MEP, and began weekly quizzes on Kappa Kappa Psi knowledge. Also, the colony became very active in the School of Music quad fraternal relationship by helping during the annual Jazz Weekend sponsored by Phi Mu Alpha and showing their support for Delta Omicron at their monthly musicales. The colony also worked hard to create a strong relationship in the group itself. They volunteered at a haunted house and help a superbowl party during the winter break and arranging other activities for the group.
The Lambda Tau chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi was installed on November 5, 2006. Since then the group has continued many of the same fundraisers that were begun while the chapter was a colony. The chapter continues water coolers and apples for the marching band during the home games and other various projects.
