Rho Delta Philanthrophic Activities

One of the most gratifying aspects of Greek life is the sense of satisfaction and pride that come with the involvement in community service. Our sisters are often found donating their time to local and national projects as well as raising funds for worthwhile charities. In addition to supporting other Greek philanthropic events, our past activities have included:

  • Annual Broomball Tournament to raise funds for Children's Miracle Network

  • Making items for the children in Sparrow Hospital

  • Participating in the Central Michigan University's Dance Marathon

  • Selling Children’s Miracle Network balloons and bracelets in the Down Under Food Court

  • Participating in Crop Walk at Central Michigan University

  • Special Olympic donations through Domino's Pizza 10% special offer

  • Selling Valentines Day carnations, with the proceeds split between Children’s Miracle Network and Special Olympics

  • Volunteering at the Summer and Winter Special Olympic games

  • Participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Evart, Michigan

  • Donating items to Goodwill

  • Donating items to the Lions Club

National Philanthropy

Phi Mu has been a national sponsor of the Children’s Miracle Network since 1986. The Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds for over 170 children’s hospitals across North America. These hospitals treat millions of children each year for every disease and condition imaginable such as cancer, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystropy, heart disease, leukemmia, sickle cell anemia, asthma, and accident trauma.

The Rho Delta Chapter supports the Children’s Miracle Network as our national philanthropy. All of the funds we raise are donated to our local children’s hospital, Sparrow Hospital, in Lansing, Michigan. During Spring 2007 we sold paper Miracle Balloons. We also participated in the Dance Marathon held at Central Michigan University on March 24-25, 2007.

Local Philanthropy

The Rho Delta Chapter has chosen Special Olympics Michigan as our local philanthropy. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.

Eating Concerns Awareness Week

Phi Mu co-sponsored Central Michigan University’s first annual Eating Concerns Awareness Week on February 19-23, 2001. This program was created by the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) organization  and has continued.  The purpose of this week-long event is to raise awareness for the many Eating Disorders that plague our campus and others across the United States.  Some of the activities and speakers that Phi Mu helped bring to campus were:

  • Table displays with free informational materials in the UC and the Student Activities Center.

  • Eating disorder screening at the counseling center.

  • Speaker Will Keim and the issues of self-esteem

  • Plus-size model Kate Dillon spoke of her battles with self-image

  • Olympic athlete Tiffany Cohen-Adams and her recovery from an eating disorder
